SKC Championship Show (May) 2014 Critique

Puppy Dog (1)
1st    Foy’s  Dorrator Franklin.  Good sized 10 month old dog. Nice head, with dark eyes and neat well-set ears, strong neck leading to good shoulder, straight front with plenty of bone, moved well holding top line. Correct harsh coat.
Junior  (2)
1st Taylor’s Kilbourne Boogaloo to Ormanstar. Well balanced dog, with masculine head, dark eyes and pleasing expression. Good shoulder and overall shape, curves where they should be, harsh coat of correct length, moved well in profile.
2nd Mckinnon’s  Moireach Osprey of Fingon. Tall dog with masculine head and typical Deerhound expression, long strong neck into slightly upright shoulder, deep brisket and good tuck up. Nice well knuckled feet, moved well though a little erratic at times.
Yearling  (4 1a)
1st  Macbean’s Killoeter Ruaig.  19 months old. Tall substantial mature looking dog, masculine head, with serious expression, good neck leading to good shoulder, deep brisket with nice fore chest, correct tuck up and top line, moved well with long stride, holding topline.
2nd De Courcy’s  Pitlochry’s Lancelot  Smaller than 1st  a little apprehensive, nice head with dark eyes, and rather worried expression, moved very freely around the ring, showing good reach and drive.
3rd Moireach Osprey of Fingon.
Post Graduate (6)
1st Constantine’s  Gentiehun Ayres Rock of Kaleginy. Medium sized  pale grey dog, nice head with dark eyes and neat folded ears. Good shoulder placement, strong legs neat feet, moved effortlessly around the ring, demonstrating both drive and reach, held top line on moving, correct coat.
2nd Dr Sharp’s Rosslyn Qonnor.  2 year old mature looking dog, masculine head with gentle expression, good shoulder front and rear assembly, strong flat bone, tightly knuckled feet. Moved freely and soundly.
3rd Gentiehun Parsley.
Limit  (5 2a)
1st Anderson’s Gentiehun Desert Orchid. Medium sized pale grey well balanced dog, with good head dark eyes and correctly set ears. Good shoulder and return of upper arm, deep brisket and tuck up. Lovely top line with correct fall away and well set tail, Moved well with a long ground covering stride.
2nd Milne & Andrew’s Islay’s Larla to Leoch (Deu Imp). Balanced dog with very dark short coat of correct texture, pleasing head with serious expression dark eyes and neat ears. Strong neck leading to good shoulder, deep brisket with correct tuck up. Moved well straight and sound.
3rd Cassacre Aethelgild.

What a lovely class of great hounds, very difficult to choose between them, I’m sure positions will change another day.
1st Hawkins.  Ch Kwaricott Corelli. Good sized elegant pale grey dog, nice head, small well set ears dark eyes and gentle expression. Strong neck into good shoulder, leading to straight front with, good bone, and ending with knuckled feet. Deep brisket and lovely tuck up. Correct top line, fall away and tail set. Correct coat. Moved effortlessly with long ground covering stride, holding top line. Straight  and true coming and going .CC
2nd Morton & Morgans.  Ch Cotherstone Shot and Steel. Another super dog, with similar qualities to above, dark coat,  masculine head, dark eyes very serious expression, lovely shape, curves where they should be. Moved well demonstrating drive and reach, just preferred the overall balance of 1st .RCC
3rd Kilbourne Nico
Veteran (1)
1st Swanson’s  Mentieth Declan. 7½ years old dog with typical Deerhound head, dark eyes and well set ears, Nice shape moved well in profile, but a little erratic coming & going today.
Puppy bitch (2  1a)
1st Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Magic 7 month old pretty puppy, dark eyes and enquiring expression. Nice overall shape for her age, moved very well for one so young, shows lots of promise.
Junior (4 3a )
1st Peach’s  Kilbourne Liberty, Very serious lady with pretty head and gentle expression, strong neck leading to good shoulder placement, straight front deep brisket, ribs carried well back. Good bone and  tightly knuckled feet. Moved soundly and easily covering the ground with long strides.
Yearling (4 1a)
1st Taylor’s Kilbourne Pandora to Talorpeche. Nice head, neat well placed ears, a darker eye would enhance expression, good sized well balanced hound both front and rear assembly’s correct, deep brisket with correct topline and underlines. Strong flat bone, feet could be tighter. Moved elegantly round the ring with long ground covering strides.
2nd  Swanson’s  Cotherstone Brogue. Dark coated girl with pretty head, dark eye and neat ears. Long neck to good shoulder, strong body with deep brisket and good tuck up, ribs carried well back, good length from hip to hock, nicely knuckled feet. Moved round the ring well, straight coming  and going.
3rd  Killoeter Ralia.
Post Graduate  (5 2a)
1st Foote & Crossan’s  Fintragor Red Red Rose.  Pretty feminine head, dark eyes, neat well set ears. and an appealing far away expression. Correct assembly front and rear, showing curves in all the right places, correct coat moved well with reach and drive on strong legs and well knuckled feet. A really lovely type.
2nd Lyon’s   Kessoch Black Sam Bellamy  Mature bitch with feminine head and
expression ,good shoulder and  front, strong legs with flat bone feet could be better. both top line and underline correct, moved  well, though wandered a little coming and going, which spoiled the overall picture.
3rd Leoch Isla
Limit  (6  1a)
1st  Bailey’s   Greyflax Just Peachy. Elegant pale grey bitch, with the prettiest of heads, dark eyes and soft expression, long neck into good shoulder, straight front with good flat bone, deep brisket with correct tuck up, good length from hip to hock and good second thigh. Floated round the ring using her strong legs to demonstrate both reach and drive, Little to choose between her and my CC winner, just lost out on maturity. RCC
2nd Constantine’s  Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy. Another elegant hound pretty head with dark eyes, and neat well set ears, long neck into good  shoulder, front and rear assembly correct. Moved extremely well, unlucky to meet winner today, whose movement, to me, was slightly the better.
3rd Kessoch Marsco of Greystiel.
Open  ( 4)
1st  Morton & Morgan’s  Ch Cotherstone Duchenne. Beautiful sized well balanced lady with feminine head, dark eyes and serious expression, would have benefited from some facial adornments! Long strong neck into good shoulder, front and rear angles correct, strong legs with plenty of bone and well knuckled feet. lovely shape showing a very good under line, and with correct gentle rise over loin good width across her rear, correct tail placement and carriage.
Moved effortlessly round the ring, long strides straight and very sound. CC & BOB
2nd Peach’s   Kilbourne Wendela.  Another quality hound  pretty head, dark eye neat ears and gentle expression, strong body showing good front and rear assembly deep brisket and ribs carried well back, correct tuck up and correct top line with rise over loin. Moved well striding out using her hind quarters to perfection.       
3rd Glenfoyble Filliberry
Veteran ( 2 1a)
Cunningham’s.  Canishurn Zena. 8 ½ years old. Good sized lady with pretty head and nice dark eyes, strong neck into good shoulder, straight front with good bone, correct tuck up and topline, moved freely round the ring straight coming and going.
